Check my bagReference limits
Sides sorted longest to shortest; bag orientation is taken into account. Compare using the unit you measured your bag in.
| Bag type | All three outside dimensions | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Cabin bag | 56 × 36 × 23 cm22 × 14 × 9 in | No numeric limit on the cited webpage |
| Personal item | 41 × 33 × 15 cm16 × 13 × 6 in | No numeric limit on the cited webpage |
These limits apply to each outside dimension. Their sum does not replace the individual limits. The checker accounts for bag orientation.
What your fare changes
Physical size and ticket allowance are separate questions. Choose the exact fare. If you do not know it yet, compare the dimensions while leaving the ticket allowance unresolved.
- UltraBasic includes a cabin bag on flights to or from Europe and Asia.
- The Extended Comfort exception requires the option on all flights in one direction, including connections.
- The currently published domestic and international tariffs set the personal-item depth at 15 cm (6 in). They expressly take priority over conflicting website information.
Worked examples
These examples illustrate the reference rules. Open a check to see the bag and ticket separately, with the applicable limitations.
UltraBasic within Canada: size versus allowance
A 55 × 35 × 22 cm suitcase meets the cabin-bag size limit. UltraBasic normally includes only a personal item on this route. Do not assume a simple extra payment will let you keep the suitcase in the cabin.
Check this example ↗The Europe or Asia exception
Under the published rule, the same UltraBasic fare can include a cabin bag on a Europe or Asia route. The other exception concerns Extended Comfort purchased on every flight in one direction, including connections.
Check this example ↗A 41 × 33 × 15 cm personal item
This size meets WestJet’s current tariff limits. A personal item is included, including with UltraBasic. Measure pockets and handles with the bag packed.

Yes. Measure the bag packed and closed at its outermost points. Bulging pockets and protruding wheels count too. The calculator uses the dimensions you enter. Potential compression is not permission: measure the bag as you will carry it and check the airline’s sizer.
No. The physical sizer, applicable ticket rules and onboard space still matter. An airline may require gate-checking even when the dimensions fit.
